For a wine to be classified as Denominació d’Origen Penedès, it must undergo a rigorous process of control by the inspectors of the DO Penedès which analyses samples from all of the lots of each cellar’s wines.
Once analysed, the samples are tasted by the DO Penedès tasting committee, which classifies each wine with a score according to the quality requirements of the DO. The committee is made up of experts, winemakers,... from the DO Penedès and the wider Catalan wine world.
For a wine to qualify for the DO Penedès label, the sample must exceed the minimum quality levels required by the tasting committee and must, of course, be sourced from vineyards of the DO Penedès.
The wine also undergoes chemical analysis to ensure that it complies with the established quality parameters.
